Sometimes a new coffee shop comes along that catches your attention. It may be drinks it serves or the proximity to where you work. Other times, it may be something else that catches your attention. Bikini Beans Espresso in Kent, Washington definitely focuses their attention on getting their customers attention with a great cup of coffee and while wearing next to nothing doing it. It was with this unique style of service that we created their branding.
Bringing Sexy Back
In 2014, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Carly (the original Bikini Bean) and her business team on their branding. They wanted to create a design that was representative of their business, Bikini Bean Espresso, which has women serving all sorts of coffee drinks while wearing bikinis or other items along that line.
Before I started this design, I never knew it was a trend. Afterward, I realized that it is a very popular way to attract customers (specifically of the male variety).
Since Carly was the original “Bean”, the decision was to use a silhouette of her for the design. I designed a silhouette of her as the center piece of a badge style design. Then I incorporated the coloring preferences that they had along with a distressed lettering style and some steam to get a “hot” feel that could resonate with both coffee drinkers and her symbol. After a few alterations, the logo was complete.
More Bikini Business
After creating the branding, I was then asked to continue to work with Bikini Beans on a menu design as well as a loyalty card. Since the goal of most menu designs is to effectively communicate the items as business has while making it appealing in a very simplistic way, we stayed with the color palette we used in the logo design. We broke up sections of the menu with solid color bars for important items or additions. The lettering was connected to the logo with categories following the lettering of “Espresso” from the logo and all other numbers / lettering following “Bikini Beans” from the logo. Lastly, to get that final appeal, we took the silhouette and placed it in the background. Overall, the design was well received and is now what people see when they drive up to Bikini Beans today!
Overall, working with Bikini Beans Espresso of Kent, Washington was a great experience and I’ve enjoyed watching them grow leaps and bounds since they opened up in the Fall of 2014.
